Frequently Asked Questions

What time may my child arrive at school?

children may arrive at school no more than 5-10 minutes prior to the start of school. They should wait outside by the kindergarten entrance doors.

May parents walk students to the classroom?

Please give all hugs and kisses outside the doors and allow students to enter on their own. I will be at our classroom door awaiting their arrival. For the safety of all students, if you need to enter the school, you must sign in at the main office and obtain a visitor's pass.

Can I prepay for my student's lunches so they do not misplace their money?

Yes, it is HIGHLY recommended that if your kindergartener is going to buy school lunches that they be prepaid in the school office. This will eliminate confusion or the possibility of lost money.

What is the procedure when my child is sick or unable to attend school?

Please phone the school absence line (586-825-2850) as soon as you know that your child will be absent. Students should be fever free for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

May my child stay after 3:46 PM?

Latch key is available for students needing after school care. Please see the school office for more information.

Where should I place notes to the teacher or other returning papers?

At the beginning of school all notes should be pinned to your child or put into his/her Folder. All students will have a Kindergarten Folder/Binder that is expected to return to school each day. I will check folders each morning for notes and papers that are being returned to school. Any communications I send home will be placed in the Folder as well.

How long should my child wear the provided name tag?

For the first few weeks, please pin the name tag to your child's clothing.

Is it necessary to label my child's belongings?

Yes, please do label your child's belongings. Children easily confuse jackets, shoes boots, lunch boxes, etc.

Where do I pick up my child at dismissal?

Please wait by the classroom fire door and I will walk students out at the end of the day.

Should I inform the teacher of any special after-school arrangements? (Daycare, walking home with someone else, etc).

As young children can easily forget, please send a note if any special circumstances arise. I must have a written note if there will be any changes in the transportation routines. You may call the office if there is an unexpected last minute change. I can not allow your child to leave school with anyone unless we have heard from you before hand. If your child is a bus rider, I will put them on the bus even if they tell me that you will be picking them up, unless I have a note stating that they are not to ride the bus. This is for your child's safety.

What is the procedure if I would like my child to stay indoors at recess?

Our school policy is that all children go out for recess unless the weather is inclement. If your child is too ill to go outside, then he/she should likely be at home. However, if there are unusual circumstances that necessitate your child staying indoors at recess, please discuss the matter with our principal.
